Waikiki Marriott Hotel Renovation

Honolulu, Hawaii

InSynergy Engineering, Inc. completed the mechanical and fire protection engineering design for the complete renovation of the 600 room Kuhio Tower and the common area spaces including the lobby, guestroom floors, restaurants, fitness center, business center, retail spaces, ballrooms, executive center, water features, and pool deck.

Design included plumbing, air conditioning, ventilation, fire protection systems, and a new pool heating system.

Approximately 5% of the guest rooms and all of the public restrooms were also modified to conform to ADA handicap accessibility standards.  The renovation of the hotel also required upgrades to bring the hotel in compliance with current codes including installation of backflow preventers, and modifications to the storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems to conform to current storm drainage and wastewater requirements.

Currently, the hotel is undergoing a second phase renovation of the guest rooms and guest floor corridors in the Kalakaua Tower.  The scope of our design duties include the design of the plumbing, air conditioning, ventilation, and fire sprinkler upgrades to support the renovation of the guestrooms, including adding a second bathroom in some of the suites.  Future renovation work will also include the renovation of the public spaces in the Kalakaua Tower.

The total cost for construction for Phase 1 was $50,000,000, and other $20,000,000 is budgeted for the Phase 2 guestroom work.
